ABOUT PATTAYA

Pattaya is one of Thailand’s main beach resort towns, about 2 hours drive southeast of Bangkok on the Gulf of Thailand, and one & half hours from the International Airport.

It is a big, bustling town with tourists and resident ex-pats from all over the world. It has an almost exclusively commercial gay scene, centered mainly around “Boyztown”, Soi Day and Night, and Sunee Plaza, with the latter seeing frequent openings and closures of the many sleazy go-go and host bars found there.

There are many gay and gay friendly hotels that will make you feel welcome.

Nearby Jomtien has become increasingly popular as the site of the gay beach and with many gay businesses. It is a 10-15 minute bus ride from Pattaya and listings for Jomtien are here

GETTING AROUND

Transport within and around Pattaya town is mainly by Songtao bus, a pickup truck with seats down each side. They’re also known by tourists as “Baht Buses”. You can flag one down and follow the fixed route around town, paying the driver when you get off, or you can hire one for the journey you want and negotiate the price. There are also a limited number of taxis.

Motorcycle taxis are popular and cheap, but check the price first, and be aware of accidents.

There are also a couple of municipal bus routes, including a Pattaya-Jomtien service.

Car and motorcycle hire are readily available too, but make sure you get 1st class insurance !

PATTAYA PRIDE
Pattaya Pride is held at the end of November each year, and raises millions of baht for charities.
