Bangkok – Truevisions, Thailand’s monopoly subscription TV service has censored a non sexual kiss between two fully clothed lesbians in the US movie “Rent”.

The scene in which the two women (see photo) kiss on a stairway was censored by digitally smearing their faces as they kissed. The censoring was a corporate decision and not forced on them by the government. Other scenes in which “straight” couples kissed have not been censored.

Truevisions routinely censor images of knives and guns being held at people’s heads or necks, and also blurs out images of alcohol being drunk, and cigarettes being smoked. This is the first time, as far a we know, that the company has censored a gay kiss in this way.

The absurd part of this censorship is that it is clearly obvious what is happening behind the digital masking., and True must be held to account for its insult to all gays and lesbians.
